Well, hello!
I am a technical writer and an author of five books, an enthusiastic editor, literary artist, and an educator offering a cauldron of services that will cast a positive spell on your learning projects, content, or book dreams—all to empower your craft, your business, and your goals.
Committed to unburying your authentic, unique story, I bring inspired integrity to your endeavors. Raised by educators in the arts and liberal arts, I have a cultivated understanding of how to midwife a project into production, warmly encouraging clients.
I am an energetic coach and collaborator, editor, and writer available to support you.
Projects and grants from organizations that steward meaning in the world—whether for Americorps, Interlochen Center for the Arts, or Greenpeace—widen my experience. Institutions I have taught for include the University of Iowa, Concordia University, Interlochen, and Idyllwild Arts academies and summer programs like Northwestern’s Center for Talent Development.
I have my MFA from The University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop and have held positions as the Poet-in-Residence at Idyllwild Arts Academy, Interlochen Arts Academy, and as assistant editor of inter|rupture. My poetry collection, A Sybil Society, won Interim Poetics’ TEST SITE POETRY PRIZE. I am currently seeking publishers for the manuscripts Spore Oracle and Ancient Create. My poems have also been a semi-finalist for the PANK First Book Award, the Cleveland State University First Book Poetry Award, the Madeline Plonsker Lake Forest Emerging Writers’ Award, and the Beyond Baroque Poetry Prize.
Poems and prose can be found online and in print at TYPO, Wave Conjunctions, Interim, femaleandfungi.com, Rescue Press, TIGHT, Wesleyan Books, Quarterly West, Poets for Living Waters, Occupy Poetry, DIAGRAM, the Colorado Review, and at Coldfront’s Poets off Poetry. My audio work lives at Soundcloud, WFMU’s Frow Show, textsound, and The Conversant.
My passions lie in language, ancient cultures, music, and mythology. My work with oracular poems and four interactive fiction books for Choose Your Own Adventure (SPIES: Mata Hari, Harry Houdini, Spy for Cleopatra, as well as Big Bigfoot’s Secret Vacation) expresses these interests.
What is KFactor? What does it mean?
My mission is to help people fall in love with language. Well, it is my name and nature; the KFactor is when elements are utilized at their peak “force.” In the world, it is used to describe unique elemental power such as water, fire, earth, and air. In our work together, it is cultivating your personal energy and creative possibility. I choose to highlight “K” Factor" as well, because—you know—letters are the absolute best!
