Writing & Publishing

Work with me one-on-one on your writing goals! Together, we will learn about how to utilize language for efficiency and effect by using examples, prompts, and exercises designed just for you. We will shape your tone and scene work and motifs, using the best literary fiction, poems, and essays as examples to inspire specific modeling and improvements. I am a book coach that can guide a manuscript into publication magic, whether self-publishing or pitching agents. Book coaching can become a combination of extensive editing and cheerleading, and ongoing prompts and exercises to maximize your writing time and interests. Although every author is different, every book reaches multiple stages, and each outcome varies depending on the audience and publishing goals. I will always endeavor to draw out the work’s best features. I pride myself on my ability to understand the needs of the writer while prioritizing the needs of the project, with reverence for the book as a vital object in the world. If we are a match, we can also continue steps toward publishing. If we are not, I will refer out whenever the project is beyond my scope. Managing others’ publication life (alongside my own) ensures I know the value of administrative precision, adhering to deadlines, and production best practices.

Workshops & Tutoring

 
 

Tutoring: Having successfully engaged various learning populations, I can nurture learners at any age to advance skills that prepare them for success—whether it be in writing, in school, the arts, or personal scholarship. Tutoring can take place online through Zoom, shared docs, and phone calls.

Classes/ Coursework: Whether online, in person, privately or in groups, topics include Intro & Advanced Poetry, Fun with Fiction, Personal Essay, Fairy TalesMythology, Music as Lit Hybrid Forms, Writing Club for Kids, Writing Choose Your Own Adventure.

College Essay/Portfolios: For those applying to college, a residency, arts program, summer camp, or MFA program, I will help you navigate your application and build your portfolio.

Developmental editing is big-picture thinking that includes a critique and overview of the goals, structure, and strengths of your book or document-in-process. This big-picture editing help can include an author letter overview, a manuscript audit with extensive document comments, or ongoing feedback that monitors gaps and deficits while developing your book.
